Savannah Griffin, Social Media Manager at Ripple Industries, has moved to the Chiang Khong region of Thailand to volunteer at a shelter for young girls. Based on the border of Laos and Thailand, the shelter, also known as Friends of Thai Daughters (FTD), was created to prevent child trafficking in areas prone to household abandonment and abuse. The thirteen girls in Savannah’s care come from diverse backgrounds, and the Ripple employee is more than happy to step up and raise awareness for this group of teens and pre-teens.
“Most of them do not know their real parents,” Savannah says. “Some, not even their birthdays.”
Schools and neighborhoods reach out to FTD when they feel that a child is in need of special care. As of right now, Savannah is the sole on-site volunteer, working with the group before and after school to teach English and the Arts.
“We are making a short film together,” the USC graduate says. “One of my degrees is in Film Production, so I was very happy when they announced they wanted to make a movie. They are all excited to learn how to use a camera and act on screen!”
Before joining FTD, Savannah spent 18 months in the Yucatan Peninsula, where she taught English, dance, and piano to children in the jungles. She holds a degree in Media Communications, along with a BFA in Film & Television Production from the University of Southern California. Her professional journey has included work with Warner Brothers and other notable companies in Los Angeles. Her desire to make a meaningful impact led her toward humanitarian work, and she joins Ripple Industries remotely while continuing this path.
Next month, she will celebrate her 27th birthday in Thailand, and she couldn’t be more excited to share this special occasion with her FTD friends!
